To Beach Or Not To Beach

Brian was traveling last week, so the kiddos and I decided to head to the Outer Banks with Nana and Baba! We had a wonderful time, and I am eternally grateful for the help and extra sets of hands. Ella had a blast and loved goofing around with her Nana and Baba.

One thing Ella did not love was the beach itself! When we arrived Tuesday evening, she and Baba headed for the beach. Ella collected shells and threw stones in the ocean, and all was going well until a very mean wave came up and got her shoes wet. Catastrophe. That was the end of the beach for Ella. We tried again twice to take her back to the beach, but she just sobbed and clung to Nana and screamed that she just wanted to go back in the house.

We're headed back to the beach in June. I'm hoping this traumatic event will be forgotten by then!

Chillin' with Baba.

Happy on the boardwalk leading to the beach. This changed as soon as we set foot on the sand.

Having a heart-to-heart with Nana about why she does not want to go out on the sand.

Ella was happier on the playground. Mama, Nana and Baby Cooper took a turn on the swings as well.

Skateboarding!

The biggest change we've seen in Ella since Cooper arrived is that she is more huggy. I'll take it!

Love how she throws her arms around everyone.

We tried to entice her to come back to the beach with a kite.

No luck. She was completely miserable and only felt safe on the boardwalk.

She really, really was not a fan of the beach.

Headed back. Enough trauma for one day.

We thought wearing Baba's goggles might help, but no such luck.

Modeling her cool suit.

And trying on Mama's shades.

Birthdays and Baa Baa Black Sheep

**We're a little behind on posting pictures. A certain little one has been taking up most of my evenings. Luckily he's cute!**

Ella loves birthdays. Almost as much as she loves princesses. One day, we are going to have a princess-themed birthday party. I think her head might just explode.

Anyway, Ella got to help Mimi celebrate her birthday last weekend! We kicked off the festivities with a trip to the Reston Zoo where Ella got to feed the sheep, watch the sheep get a haircut, and ride a pony. Ella had been previously, and loved feeding the sheep, but this time she was a little scared of the sheep!

Being brave and feeding the sheep.

Riding Ringo - her favorite activity at the zoo.

And here's the cake we made for Mimi's birthday! Ella was insistent that we make Mimi a strawberry cake. However, she finally gave in and agreed to help Mama make a chocolate cake for Mimi.

Baby Cooper smiling at Mimi and Poppa. This was one of his first smiles!

Stretching out.

Ella's favorite part of birthdays - the candles!

Birthday snuggle with Mimi and Helene.

Someone's getting sleepy...

Sunny Days...

So far it's been a pretty wet and rainy Spring. I was really hoping for some warm weather during my maternity leave! Let's hope it warms up soon...

There have been a few nice days when we managed to get outside. I took Ella out to swing on one of the nicer days.

Her "cheese" face. I think it's better not to ask her to smile. She actually said to me at one point - "Mama, no more pitures, otay?" Wow, I know I take too many pictures...this comment actually made me think about cutting back on the number of pictures I take -- well, for a minute at least.

We also spent a beautiful day at the zoo! Mimi and Ella checked out the baby lions. Ella loved it.

And look who else we found at the zoo! Daddy stopped by to have lunch with us!

Our picnic table overlooked this guy, who was also enjoying his lunch.

The fam.

The other morning, I walked into the bathroom to find that Ella had organized all of the clips for my curlers on the sink in color order. OCD anyone?

Bath time and Bedrooms

Well, we didn't photograph Cooper's "first bath." That's what happens when you are the second child :) But here are a couple pics of Coop splashing in the bath.

And - here are the kiddos bedrooms! Cooper's is still a work in progress...

Ella's closet -- of course the princess got the biggest closet in the house.
